This started the other day. When I connect to VPN, it connects but no taskbar icon is displayed, so I have to log off to disconnect. However on logging back on there is now a taskbar icon, even though VPN is no longer connected. Right clicking on status causes something to be displayed for a very short time, but it vanishes almost immediately. Right clicking on disconnect has no effect.

I'm assuming that something somewhere has become broken or corrupted. Any suggestions please?

I know it's the obvious one, but certainly worth trying first:

If you go into Network Connections, and right click on the VPN connection and view the properties - is the box checked that says to show an icon when connected?

'When all else fails.......read the manual'

Thanks Cyberspace, but I've tried all the obvious things.

In Thursday's Guardian Ask Jack column, somebody else had a similar problem with the "traffic lights" (sic) not being displayed. I wonder if there's an issue with Windows XP?

Is this some particular VPN client application? If so, no one can help until we know what app we're talking about.
