I am using a linux box with samba as the PDC for my LAN with windows XP workstations. I am able to join the workstations to the domain (called abcd.net)without any problems.

Immediately I start any workstation, I am able to browse all the PCs on the newtork. However after sometime, I cant browse any computer on the domain with the error:

"abcd.net is not accessible. You might not have permision to use this network.Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. ....."

When I restart windows again, I am able to browse all the computers for sometimes and then the problem re-occurs..

Plese anybody with a tip of solving this problem? I am not sure if it is a Windows xp or samba problem.

Cheers,
dula

Add WINS support by inserting the line following into your smb.conf file under the global section
[tt]wins support = yes[/tt]
Restart samba

On the XP box open the Advanced TCP/IP Settings and enter the ip address of your samba server in the wins tab.

There might be other ways to fix this issue but this seems to work the best.
