Does anyone know why Windows XP has network activity when the computer is off?

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction." Albert Einstein

Network activity measured or observed how?

. If your modem blinks, this is likely perfectly normal. It an be either a heartbeat monitor from the modem to the ISP or vice-versa; you could have been sharing files with Kazaa, eMule, eDonkey, Filetopia, Piolet, WinMx or something similar and you have a persistant cache of shared file entries on other remote clients. There are a lot of reasons for modem activity.

2. If your workstation LEDs on the ethernet adapter are on, you like have "Wake-on-Lan" enabled in the BIOS and/or settings of the LAN adapter.

3. If your router lights blink occasionally, this is a stay-alive feature of the router. Leave it alone.
