I am trying to help a friend who has dsl and windows xp. She was able to browse the internet with both user accounts until the other day. Now she can only browse with the main account (administrator). I looked at obvious setting like tcpip and all looked fine on the limited user. I finally deleted that user and added another limited user. Still no browsing available. Is there a setting or known issue with this?
She does have Mcafee group and a normal firewall.
Thanks

On the obvious not sure if you checked the group policy settings refering to limited accounts. It could have been modified to deny access to internet.

It is strange that it stopped so suddenly but I will check them. Are those setting under computer management or user area? Thank you very much for responding!

Should be. Thats where there located on mine but then again im running windows 2000 pro and certain things are differnet. Mine is located at control panel, admninistrative tools, computer management. Yours might be a bit different of location though. Your welcome on the response although im not sure if this is the problem but id thought id give it a shot lol.

If you promote the limited user (temporarily) to an administrator, can they connect?

What, if anything, is showing up in the Event Viewer?

Is System Restore any option to revert back to when all was well?

Is it all connectivity or just browser connectivity where you have this problem?

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Try running temporarily with the check box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

They do connect as administrator but not as limited. I will look at some of the links you sent. Thanks
