I have Windows xp home edition. Until recently, the "Welcome screen" appeared, i clicked on my name, entered my password and i was taken to my home desktop. Now, after i enter my password, it does nothing for about 60 seconds, then it takes me to my desktop. I have run spy-bot, ad-aware 6.0 and Microsoft Reg Clean. But it still takes ages to load. There is nothing in the "Startup" folder and the system works ok when it finally gets there. Any Clues, Thanks

Try disabling any unrequired services that are running in background.

Some general things to try.

Defrag and run Disk Cleanup.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with windows.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
