Windows XP freezing 1

I recently upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home edition. Since this upgrade my computer is constantly freezing and running rather badly.
Any ideas on what I could do to rectify this
BTW - the installation process was fine - no errors

How much Ram do you have?
When does the "freezing" occur?

See what unnecessary services you can disable, as these may be slowing you down. Look at the Indexing service, especially.

Download the free BootVis.exe Tool from Microsoft and improve your bootup times.


What software has been installed prior to this problem starting? Software may be conflicting with windows or with other software. Common causes are Anti Virus and Security type programs or CD Burning programs.

To get further information about the "freezing" look in your Event viewer and see if you are getting errors or warnings.
Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.
