Im trying to stop XP dialing up, Ive turned off all the autodial features, and disabled the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service. I think Ive narrowed it down to a Win98 pc on the 4-machine network . When that machine starts up or attempts to browse the network/explorer it causes the XP machine to dial. It has no spyware, no messengers, nothing. Its using WinGate to share the connection and check mail. Mail is checked only manually. Any ideas!?!? Cheers!

Fire up Internet Explorer.

Tools -> Options -> Connections tab.

You'll see options for how to handle dialup -- you probably want "Never dial a connection when network is present" or even "never dial a connection".

Thanks jpm121,

have that selected though!!! Its doing my nut in!

Any other ideas!?

Change the default Gateway of the offending machine perhaps ?

Have you checked that the Mail client is not set to auto launch Messenger?
