I have a machine running windows XP which displays the date in american format and the standard currency symbol as $. I have changed the regional option locale to united kingdom, but still the date is displayed in american format MM/DD/YY and not DD/MM/YY. Can anyone shed any light on this as it is becoming annoying now.

In Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options click on Customize... button and there you can change your numbers, currency, time and date formats.
