hi:
I have sometimes a problem when booting into windows xp home edition, i takes to much time to boot. I've checked the event viewer and have found an entry that repeats a lot of times with a message like this "SOURCE: ATAPI, EVENT ID.: 9, The device \device\ide\ideport1 did not respond within the alowed wait time", well it's something like it, i wonder if any one can help me aout with this. I've tried chkdsk /r, scf /scannow, virus scanning to no solution. I see it is related to hard disk drive or ide channel. One thing I've noticed is that when windows xp takes a lot of time to load there is a short read/write noice in the hard disk.

Any one with some help to solve this will be very apreciated.

That error is a slow/failure to read/write to a CD? Clean up any CD's you have and that should correct it.

As for the slow boot...a few things to try

Download spybot/adaware (or any of the others I'm certain people can suggest) and ensure you don't have any spyware on your system.

Run a virus checker.

Defrag the drive.

Lastly, use MSconfig to clear out any unnecessary items in your startup process.

Use Device Manager to identify, if possible, the original manufacturer of the hard disk drive.

Go to their website and download their free diagnostic/setup utility. I know MAXTOR, Wester Digital, SAMSUNG, IBM and FUJITSO offer such a utility.

The download will create a bootable floppy disk image. Boot from it and run any and all "non-destructive" tests offered.
