I have a Windows XP machine with a USB Tape Drive connected. I have set up 7 tapes, 1 for each day and have them scheduled to run at 10:00 PM. I did a manual backup with each one and was able to restore from them. The backups do not run and there is no error associated with it. When I look at the report, there is no indication it ever attempted to run. If I look in task scheduler, it does show up as suppose to run. One thing I have noticed is that Nortons 2006 is enabled and often times it causes problems....any ideas.

In the XP task schedular there is a little box that says Run only of logged on. I know it is kind of obvious but make sure it isn't checked.

Also make sure the computer is not in standby at the time scheduled. I have noticed a few computers that have problems running scheduled tasks and the such because they go into standby.

BTW I hate standby. THere is nothing worse than using a vpn and wanting to RDP to my work desktop and finding it has gone into standby and won't wake up.

Don't look at the letters after my name. There is still a distinct possibility I am an id10t.

Make sure the user account that scheduled the job has a password.

You can disable standby in the power save options (Display Properties)...this can also be changed VIA GPO or Script.

Does the backup scheduled require any user intervention (popup messages or prompts)? If so, that will cause an issue. Does the scheduled task show any thing for Last Run? It should say could not start if its a task problem, if it shows the last run time and the backup never ran then you have backup configuration problem.
