I have freshly installed WinXP Pro on my system. IT has been about 2 months.

What I am finding is that it reverts back to some of its old settings for no apparant reason (at least to me).

The one main problem is with the file viewing. I believe that WinXP uses Tiles as a default. I like Details. I have had to change it back to details several times since the install as it reverts back to whatever the default is.

Any ideas why?

Also when I open any MS Office product and browse for a file it does not use Details.

Shouldn't the file browser in MS Office use the same settings as the file explorer?

Thanks

You mean you've set the 'view all folders like current' option (after setting current to what you want) but windows is reverting?

Office browser does not pick up explorer settings afaik (certainly not on my machines - though I've never bothered trying to make it!)

If you want the same view for every folder try this, open any Explorer window and go via Tools/ Folder Options/ View and apply your current view to all folders.

If you want different views for different folders Open any Windows Folder Click on Tools/ Folder Options/ View. Select from the dropdown options "remember each folder's view setting".

You can also try this fix to see if it will hold your settings.

Sometimes windows XP forgets it's folder view settings.

Here is the solution.

Backup these RegKeys.

1:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]

2:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

After that you must delete them.

Restart windows to take effect.

Now you can change each folder and the setting will stay. (Perhaps!).
