Hi - I have a seagate baracudda 20 gb hard drive. This drive works fine in win 98/me. but when i load win xp/2000, all i see is 8 gb space and that too with no file system on it.

i have tried everything from formattin this disk again and again but no luck. i also tried installing windows xp on this drive but still in setpup, windows xp shows only 8 gb drive and now the 20 gb.

i have one more drive on system which is 40 gb and that works fine. this 40 gb drive is master.

my system is amd athlon with asus motherboard and my bios is up to date.

i dont know why this drive isnt working in win xp/2000. ne ideas?

thanks
kavans.

Check the jumpers - some drives have a 'backward compatibility' jumper setting which restricts drive size to 8GB for use with older motherboards (I accidentally set this on a drive once and win2k could only see 8Gb - though the bios & win9x still saw 17gb - so it obviously didn't work very well!) But worth checking.
