They show up in the bios but when I open windows explorer the cd and dvd just aren't there. I don't know what happened, everything was fine until the other day when I was going to burn a CD and the Roxio program couldn't find the burner. I thought it was the program so I downloaded a couple of others and they all did the same thing. I tried to update the drivers, didn't work, deleted them from the device manager, even shut off the computer, disconnected them, started up the computer, deleted them, shut off the computer, started up the computer, shut off the computer, reconnected them, and let windows do it's plug n play thing, to no avail. I'm exhausted! I can't seem to find the drivers to download online and I even tried to get them off the manufacturers cd from my laptop on the network. That didn't work either. I'm sure a bunch of you know exactly what it takes to fix this and you're remembering way back when you first encountered a similar probem which you have now grown far beyond. Thank you in advance for your help. Rod

I am having a similar problem with my PC.

I have HP RecordNow installed and it doesn't always detect a compatible drive. On further inspection I noticed that Windows is not seeing either my CD-RW drive or my CD-ROM drive. Rebooting the PC finds them but after a while I get a message telling me that the drives have been ilegally disconnected.

Changing the IDE makes no difference either.

I am at a loss as to what to do. Could it be the port on the motherboard or similar to the above problem a software issue?

the fix I cave to rodman is for Roxio/Easy CD Creator, if your are using Roxio/Easy CD Creator then that should take care of that problem.
