I've search for days to find a solution to this. One of my clients has a Windows Vista Home Basic and she put some tax software on a windows xp share but while vista is trying to access it, it fails with a 'Access Violation' error.

I have checked the permissions on both machines and they both are correct. I'd love to fix this problem, well i'd love to remove vista completely from her machine.

Thanks for the info

Can you clarify that the Vista Home Basic machine is trying to access files and not attempting to run some .exe from the XP machine?

Have you tried launching the .exe as an elevated user with the "Run As Administrator" option? In Vista even Administrators run with just Standard Users privileges unless the privileges are elevated via a UAC prompt or using the "Run As" option.

In case you are seeing a Networking problem, check out these links in this thread.
