Windows Updates??

Where does everyone get their WIN98 updates now that Microsoft doesn't recognize it.

This is for CPU's where the operating system has to be installed new. (replacing harddrives)..

Windows update for 98 should still work - but as microsoft have stopped support you only need to do it once. Try doing it 'by hand' from internet explorer.

I haven't done this for a couple of months so maybe microsoft have closed the facility?

It was no longer there the last time I looked, about 3 weeks ago...

I just tried it from a virtual 98 PC & got this.

Are you getting the same?

I had to add the following addresses as trusted sites

http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

https://*.update.microsoft.com

http://*.update.microsoft.com

http://download.windowsupdate.com

http://*.windowsupdate.com

(tools, internet options, security, trusted sites, sites add)

At which point it worked.



Tools/windows update took me to

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

You may need to install V6 of internet explorer first, if you don't have it.

What version of IE?

Maybe set minimum security?

Any chance of malware having crept in.

This link redirects to the message listed above. My best guess is that since they are removing support for 98/ME then they can remove the update site that supports it.
