Just got the cable modem installed and it’s working as far as getting on the internet and surfing, but when I go to do the Windows updates, it fails. I can select the updates, click on the accept and it has the download box, but no bytes are downloading, and then it gets another screen that says that the updates failed, I have tried different times and still no luck. This machine is a Win2000pro, I tried another computer that is a Win XP Pro, and it does the same thing. I’m in the process of installing a hub, and using the cable modem through that, and yes I have paid for the extra IP #’s. But in the mean time I have hooked up both computers to the cable modem directly, one by one, and both will not do the Windows Updates. Now, I still have my dial-up account. If I unplug my cable modem and use my modem to my dial-up service, the windows updates will work, and I have downloaded small updates, and it will install them, it’s just when the cable modem is installed that it will not. Everything as far as browsing works great.
