Before the end of January, I made the latest Windows update. Then I noted that, whenever there is a sound in FireFox, the computer close the level of the music and play the alert instead.

It happens in Facebook, whenever a comment is made. It happens on some news site whenever an ad with sound is played. It happens when playing YouTube films...
You get the picture!

Could be an application level issue, since you mention Firefox. So make sure first that it isn't application-specific. If so, the rest of this will be useless. To test, test same websites in different browsers: Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, anything else you want to try... Opera... Iron... Chromium... etc ... Apple Safari

Could be Windows Update installed a newer version of your audio driver, but that driver may not actually be best for your audio hardware chipset. Try searching in device manager for the audio chipset, and see if there is a rollback option.

In detail, here is a plan:
[ol 1][li]Check to see if you CAN rollback the audio driver.[/li]
[li]If so, create a new system restore point (so you can come back here if it doesn't fix the issue)[/li]
[li]Rollback the audio driver from device manager - audio driver - properties - driver tab[/li]
[li]Test[/li]
[li]If problem is fixed, you may have to configure windows updates to not install recommended updates automatically, in case that option is ticked - or else be sure to never allow it to update the audio driver, if you're manually running updates - would be listed under recommended updates, and something that starts "hardware..." most likely.[/li]
[li]If problem not fixed, go back to the system restore point you created, so you're back at square one.[/li]
[li]Then perhaps search online for an updated driver from the chipset manufacturer. If it's an Intel motherboard, and no custom sound chipset, then you could also just use the Intel driver update utility to search for any drivers that need updating... however if it finds nothing, I would likely search to make sure there isn't an update and their utility just isn't finding it.[/li]
[li]Sometimes a Google search for your specific chipset, operating system, and driver and/or "issues" or related can turn up isntances where someone already asked your specific problem somewhere and someone found a specific solution.[/li][/ol]

Whatever you do, post back here with your results to close things out. If you take a step, but have another problem, post it.

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:57
