Windows Update breaks vs. Proxy & Firewall

W2K Pro, SP3, clean load on a Dell Lat C640 laptop. We use a automatic proxy config file, and I can get anywhere on the 'Net, no problem.

When I run Windows Update, it lets me download the scan engine and run it. When I do "scan for updates" I get

Access Denied By Firewall

(sounds like Windows Update is not using my proxy settings, since it should be going through the proxy...) any clues on making the Update Engine cooperate with our proxy server?

Found it... problem was PC's year was 2002, causing the HTTPS portion of WINUP to fail due to "certificate not yet valid", even through the error given was "no updates are available" or "access denied by firewall" depending on which proxy we used.

WATCH THOSE DATES! They break HTTPS big time!
