Hello all,

I am doing a project that is going to resemble a much scaled down version of Windows Update. My only problem is that I am unable to find much information on how Windows actually achieves this! I do know it uses an ActiveX control to scan the user's system for installed software. This is where I am getting stuck. Can this control be created from just learning about ActiveX or is it an extremely complex applcation that could be out of my scope.

I have plenty of programming experience, COBOL, VB, Java and C, so learning about ActiveX is not a problem.

Any help or direction will be much appreciated.
Cheers!
