I uploaded an AutoCAD drawing file (dwg) into a SharePoint library. After double-clicking the icon to open the file, the drawing either appears in the IE browser or the IE Browser shows a blank screen, depending on which PC opens the file.

Is there a way to execute the AutoCAD program upon double-clicking the file icon instead of having the drawing appear in the IE browser?

I've edited the DOCICON.XML file and added an entry for 'dwg' with the EditText variable set to "AutoDesk AutoCAD", but that didn't work.

Thanks.

would changing the file association on the users machine work ?

Which version of IE are you running?
This could be related to the "Trusted" site setting, you could try adding the site name to the Intranet security tab and see if that works.

Running IE7. Added the SharePoint site as a trusted site. Didn't work. Thanks anyway.
