Does anyone have any best practices or opinions on having a share placed under an existing share? I have taken Inheritance off the parent share, but am wondering what other ramifications I need to worry about.

I have done this a couple of times. ex: we have a directory for our accounting team and it has a series of subdirectories. A couple of people provide data to the accounting team and for the accounting team only so I made the subdirectory where that data lives a share for only those people. This keeps all of the accounting data in one place and allows for a small subset of people access to a subset of the data.

I try not to do it for most things as it can make permissions confusing especially if you change the root directory and have turned of inheritance on the subdirectory.

That is a similar situation I am contemplating. I have manually edited the permissions on the daughter folder in my test environment. It would be for data collection purposes. Just seeing if I have missed any security issues and such.
