Hi,hope you can help.

We are running a windows 2003 DC running Windows 2003 Standard.

We need to allow our Solaris users to authenticate on the Windows 2003 Domain and believe we need to install an add on for Active Directory "Windows services for Unix". We have downloaded this but have been unsuccessful installing it. We get problems when we get to the NIS section, the install errors and rolls back. To be honest we are not sure of the NIS settings required, it asks for an NIS domain and as we only have 1 domain, we enter the details of that. It accepts it and goes through install but then fails and rolls back.

Looking on the net, it appears that Windows 2003 Server RS2 has this add on as part of the the Add/Remove progams (Windows components).

Can anyone shed any light on installing this add on, on to a Windows 2003 Standard server, or advise if it is safe to upgrade to RS2 without affecting the domain.

You may want to consider installing Samba on your Solaris system which can then be used to help you authenticate to a Windows domain. I don't think Windows SFU is designed to be used as an NIS server only as a client of an NIS domain.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response.

Sorry should have mentioned the whole setup, We have Samba installed on Solaris and it can see the users on the domain with Genent passwd and Wbinfo, however it wont authenticate to allow them to login. Supposedly this Active Directory add on allows unix users on to the windows domain.

Basically as far as I can see, everything is now setup on the Solaris server, its part of the domain and as mentioned can see users and groups on the windows domain. Solaris is setup with PAM to login through winbind. When we login to solaris with a domain username, it doesnt error, however it just rejects the username/password after thinking about it.

Thanks
