Hi all I am experimenting with server 2008 standard and the Windows server backup software.

Is it possible to import a backup made from "windows server backup" straight into hyper-V to use as a virtual server for purposes of business continuity?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.

Not directly.

You could take a backup of a server, then create a Hyper-V guest VM, then restore the backup to it, but then you'll be faced with some reconfiguration issues because the physical hardware platform that it was on has been changed to virtual.

If you're interested in using VMs for DR/business continuity, I would suggest running your applications inside of VMs to begin with. You get much more flexibility when you start wtih VMs.
