I have recently starting having to right click and then scroll to "Open" any folders.. instead of just double clicking, which now opens the "search" function.. I used to just have to double click.. I have looked all through the folder options and CANNOT find the damn setting that will set it back.. the restore defaults didnt work either.. anyone got any ideas???...

TIA..

is this on all folders? The only place where this TYPE OF (never heard of that one before though)behaviour is configured is
Folder > Tools > Folder Options > General, at the bottom, there is two options for opening (nothing like your problem), but hit Restore Default, or however you word it.
The other is Control Panel > Mouse.

The only thing that I think could cause that problem (if not in the mouse settings is)
a) You have a IntelliMouse, or equivilent, meaning one with its own control software, if so, have a look at the Mouse software, see if there is anything in there,
b) A virus...a pretty impractical one...but hey. Never know..do a virus scan.

Thats all i can think of. Never heard of that before.

thanks ncotton.. to answer some of your questions.. YES it is ALL folders. I have checked the folder options general dialog box and the Double click to open an item radio button is selected. I have just a stardard mouse that came with the Dell system. and this server is a RIP for Trueflow3 in my print production and is not on the internet, just on a VPN, could it still have gotten a virus??.. I have symantec running on it and it finds nothing..

but if this helps I was changing the "read only" permissions on a folder a few weeks back and told it to apply to all folders - it told me it had to configure something(and for the life of me I cant remember what it said it was configuring) but after that it hasnt been the same. thanks for your help, let me know if you think of anything.

Hi,

I have seen this happen before. The mouse buttons "invert" themselves, but thats not quite accurate. I solved this by reinstalling the latest service pack.

Good luck.
