I have a file server that has Windows XP Pro with SP2 on it. I have Norton Antivirus 2005 and Spybot S&D 1.4 with the latest updates on both.

Since this is a file server no one directly uses the computer. I just ran Spybot to find 2 registry entries come up under the title of "Windows Security Center". Has anyone seen this before? Is Microsoft peddling crap with windows that Spybot doesn't like or is this some 3rd party crap that is masquerading as a Microsoft product?

And the end result... should I delete?

Any help is appreciated.

a week or so ago MS came out with a security update about a hole they were recommending to disable something (java?) and this may be the reason for the:

Windows Security Center: Settings (Registry change, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusOverride!=dword:0

Windows Security Center: Settings (Registry change, nothing done)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallOverride!=dword:0

Basically spybot's update is now reporting that entries in Microsoft's security centre have been switched off, if you have did this yourslf then there is nothing to worry about and ignore spybot's log, it actually fixed mine and I set it back and it's reporting them again!

Might these settings be correct, if you are not using the AV and firewall programs within windows. i.e if you have external programs.
I see these in the Spybot check and I have Zone alarm and AVG installed.

i run both ZA and AVG and never got this message until after i installed the MS patch i previously mentioned.

I am getting these now after updating Spybot, don't remember installing a M$ patch since the SP2 upgrade.

I get it with Symtec too. It is just saying that you have turned off those anoying warning from XP that says that your virus software is not updated. I am surprized it doesn't mention that my XP firewall is turned off cuz I am using Zonealarm.

sggaunt - I think in Windows XP Home edition, depending on how you respond to initial requests for updates (if you say something like "don't ask me again"), Windows updates can be installed automatically without your knowledge.

Zone Alarm is recognised by Security Centre, it can see it as an active firewall and hence will not bug you about it.
