Is there a way for the screen resolution setting to be setup so that a change made by one user does not change the setting for all other users of the same computer.

ie.
User #1 likes to set:
(Desktop) Properties - Settings - Screen Area - 1280 X 1024

User #2 sets: Screen Area - 640 X 480

User #3 sets: Screen Area - 1024 X 768

When any user logs on it would be preferable if it can be setup so that the user's preferred settings comes up rather than the setting that was last used on the computer by whoever was the last person to use it.

Is there a registry setting?

Some other way to make this setting not be global to all users...

Thanks.

There is no formal provision for this.

See Doug Knox's widely praised (and deservedly so) approach to handling this issue. As you seem to have a good feel for the internals of what is going on, the following should help a lot:

Keep User Display Settings v2.0 Yes 06/02/2002

I have not tried the following under Win2k but I remember is as a good starting point:
QuickRes for Windows® XP - v2.0
