Hi I am trying to connect 2 Windows 2000 Routers (using routing and remote access) with L2TP VPN connection. The routers are not joint to any domain, they are independent from each other and from any other domain. I've set up everything including certificates etc the only problem is that when i am trying to connect i get this pop up error on the calling server:
"An error occurred during the connection of the interface.
Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain"
In the System Event viewer of the calling router i found these 2 events:
Event: 20180
Type: Information
Desc: Interfacer Remote office is unreachable because the connection attempt failed.
Event: 20111
Type: Error
Desc: A demand dial connection to the remote interface Remote office on port VPN3-127 was successfully initiated but failed to complete successfully because of the following error: Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain.
On the recieving (answering) router i get these 2 events in the system event viewer:
Event: 20189
Type: Warning
Desc: The username {user} connected from 10.1.130.2 but failed on authentication attempt due to the following reason: The username attemtped to use an unauthorized authentication method.
Event: 20014
Type: Warning
Desc: The user {user} has connected and failed to authenticate on port VPN4-127. The line has been disconnected.
Any ideas guys? I'm desperate for help. I've been searching in the Microsoft KB, MSDN and other recourses without any luck.
