I've started using the Windows Remote Desktop App (found at link below):
(Note: it'll ask to open in the store if you're running windows 10 for sure, I imagine at least also Windows 8)

So I've setup some computers with custom names for connecting to and organized it somewhat.

Does anyone have an idea as to what files to backup or else how to backup the settings for whenever I have to reinstall this computer system or move to a new/different system?

If not, I may end up needing to consider an alternative - just creating RDP shortcuts, and saving to a folder.

I only have access to Windows 10 Pro but that has the non-app version of the Remote Desktop Client preinstalled. If you open that and click the 'show options' button it'll reveal a bunch of extra settings plus 'save', 'save as' and 'open' buttons. You can save the whole config for a connection as a .rdp file, which you can double-click to open the RDP client.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro as well. It was an optional App to checkout, so I took a look. I liked the extra settings.

I see the Save As option in the normal RDP program - basically same thing I'd get if I saved the file and then renamed it later.

I really like the way the App works specifically to just click on the computer within the main window, then go to settings, and change the custom name. I also like how I can move different computers to different groups. For instance, I've got servers off to a separate group, and I have another group for computers at a satellite office.

So hopefully I'll find a way to save/export the settings for the new App instead of having to go back to RDP. But the good thing is that RDP just works on all the modern versions of Windows.
