My Windows froze during work. When I restarted the PC, the only way I could boot it was in safe mode or safe with network support. I did a step by step confirmation and then it froze just after I confirmed loading of ptvcd.vxd. Then I went back to safe mode and moved that file somewhere else, but when I rebooted again it told me ptvcd.vxd is not there any more and froze. I concluded that the problem must be right after that file, but I don't know. I am running Windows 98.
Any ideas?

(Sorry if this post is a duplicate, I'm still new to this forum :))

Boot to safe mode. Run SFC, and extract ptvcd.vxd from the Windows CD.
REstart to the DOS prompt. Type scanreg /fix and let it run. If you get a choice, choose a backup from a day that is a known good working one.
Restart. Cheers,
Jim
