I am looking at .JPG files using WP&FV in WinXP Home with Service Pack 2. I can look at the files but I cannot save them, or do anything else with them. I get the following error message -

"Failed to save to the specified location. Make sure the file is not write-protected and there is enough space on the drive to save the image. Copy To Aborted."

The files are not write-protected and there is plenty of disk space. I noticed a knowledgebase item about WP&FV failing to rotate .JPGs of a certain type and requiring the installation of Service Pack 2. Dunno if this is related, but I installed SP2 some months back anyway.

Any advice would be appreciated.

What are the file access permissions for the source files and what are the file access permissions for the destination folder. Being XP Home you have to check the Security Tab via Safe Mode. Also make sure the files do not have any Read-Only box checked in the Properties of the file (don't worry about any folder Read-Only Properties, that's another story).

Another solution might be to forget about the built in picture viewer and download a free copy of Irfanview to handle your pictures.

Thanks for the suggestion. The permissions on the source file and the destination file are the same.

"Group or Users" contains
Administrators
Myname
System

and beneath this in the "Allow" column I have ticks in dark grey on a light grey background next to -
Full Control
Modify
Read and Execute
Read
Write
and Special Permissions is not ticked

No "Read Only" boxes checked. I can't say I understand why I can't do anything but look at pictures with WP&FV. Is this a common problem? Couldn't locate anything on MS web site about it. Any ideas what's going on?

I have come across the same problem, when I try to save to a blank floppy, any picture over 200KB it keeps trying to write to the disk.On task manager it says not responding,on any picture under 200KB it is fine.I have tried this on 3 PC's running XP Home with the same results

You don't say, but I suppose you have tried different floppies in case a damaged floppy disk is the problem?

Perhaps a different brand of floppy could be worth a try?

Can you save other types of 200kb files to floppy?

Can you save the troublesome file to other locations via the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?
