Is there any performance advantage/disadvantage when using TSM in a Windows environment or UNIX?

Sure there is, mainly CPU cycles perform much cleaner on Unix and it can handle multiprocesses much better. A Windows server has much more overhead on the server than a Unix machine. As a comparison note, it usually takes 2 Windows servers to perform the same as 1 Unix server..

I second Comtec17.
It really depends on your needs.
a windowsbox can handle 2-3 TB a night with a good LAN
twice that with a very well tuned unix box.
post you requirements an we will be able to be more precise ;)
