I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH A WINDOWS NT WORKSTATION. EVERYTHING I SHUT IT DOWN OR BOOT IT UP IT TENDS TO DO IT VERY SLOW, SPECIALLY DURING THE SHUTTING DOWN PART IT GETS STUCK ON SAVING FILES AND SETTING SCREEN. IT TAKES IT ABOUT 10 TO 15 MIN TO ACTUALLY GET OVER THAT AND SHUT DOWN OR BOOT UP
PLEASE HELP IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM REPLY TO THIS.

Have you checked Task Manager to see if you CPU is running at 100%, and if it is, what resource is causing it?

Find out how many programs are running in the background. If you tend to have an over amount of programs running in the background, it could cause a 50% or better resource loss.

Go to your start menu, make sure you only have items in your start menu that you absolutely have to have running, this will cut down on some. Also, Anti Virus software is a BIG proprietator of sluggish systems, go to your options and make sure you only have the necessary items running for your antivirus.

This should eleviate some of the problems, the only other thing I can tell you . . . if it is that big of a problem, start from scratch and try to find out where your problems are stemming from.

Check out your Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files Settings...Go into Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, General tab, and check out your settings. Make sure your Temporary Internet files folders are not pointing to your C:\WINNT\PROFILES\.......\Temporary Internet Files directory. If they are, change them to point to C:\WINNT\Temporary Internet Files directory. If these are roaming profiles on these machines and your clients are heavy internet users, this setting can slow you down considerably while logging onn and off.

Hope this helps.

Internet explorer temp files are certainly the first thing to look at. There are other applications which will also fill up your profile. Check the size of your profile, and if it's big (say over 1MB) then see which of the folders within your profile contain lots of stuff. Temp internet files and application data are usually the culprits.

check if you are using roaming profiles.
Control Panel -> System and check the amount space it is using. If necessary clean temp. internet files and move offline mail folder (*.ost) out of the %systemroot%\profiles folders
