How do I remove this application once on the PC? It seems very difficult to do

There are hundreds of solutions for this.

My choices in order of perference:

. Group Policy
. Services:
Start button, services.msc, Messenger Service, stop, set the Startup to disabled.

Oddly, there are entire Web sites dedicated to this issue. Google "disable messenger windows xp" .

There is even a special tool:

Kill the Messenger

The best (and maybe safest) place to expriment is:
[sub]I have this little thing, Advanced Delusionary Schizophrenia with Involuntary Narcissistic Rage. It's no big deal really...[/sub]

go to add/remove windows components and uncheck the MSN Messenger program. I do the same for MSN Explorer and Outlook express.
