I've got a problem with Windows Media player. It seems as though my mom was vacuuming my room, and went right onto my keyboard and well ever since I can't get WMP to work.

I have Windows XP Pro, and I had WMP version 10 installed.

The error message that I get is:

The file wmplayer.exe has a version number of 10.0.0.3802 where 9.0.0.3250 was expected.

Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.

Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?

Yes/No

So, I clicked on yes, downloaded the MP10setup.exe file, reinstalled it, and got the same exact error message.

Can anyone help?

Try System Restore to a point before the vacuuming incident.

If that doesn't work have a look at these links.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

Here's a good site for WMP problems.

Depending on what repair attempts you have already made, you may have run into a problem with mis-matched Service Pack versions of files?

I don't believe there is any uninstall for WMP, except for System Restore.

In Add or Remove/ Windows Components, this only relates to Start Menu and Desktop links and icons, not the player itself.
