Windows Media Player (mplayer2.exe)

I am unable to get Windows Media Player content that uses the embedded WMP (6.4 or mplayer2.exe). If I bring up a stream under IE, I get some of the Media Player buttons grayed out and no sound. If I bring up a stream under Mozilla Firefox, I get a message indicated the plug-in executed illegal instruction and kills Firefox.

If I run mplayer2.exe by itself, it eventually faults and dies.

I have done the following;
- Disabled firewall
- Set bandwidth
- uninstall/reinstall WMP and IE.

While I can delete or rename mplayer2.exe, it doesn't stay. I delete it and it reappears in a few seconds.

Please help me fix my WMP problem.
