Howdy. Here's the problem in brief. Windows ME machine on a network with 20 other XP workstations. Everyone uses DHCP on a 2000 server. Everyone has Internet access but the ME laptop. Laptop can browse all subnet resources and can ping the gateway but cannot ping beyond either by ip address or DNS name. Replaced the NIC, all tcpip settings like dns, gateway etc are correctly being retrieved from the 2000 server. Cannot access Internet. Very freakin strange. Laptop can even login to the firewall (the gateway) Gets the html page and everything. I'm stumped. Help.

To amend, I can ping the external IP on the other side of the firewall (gateway) but cannot ping the external DNS servers or anything else for that matter outside. Ack.

Well then if you are able to ping your gateway and not pass him, then ill check the logs on the gateway... You have a firewall? It is probably not your ME station.
