Windows ME deletes config.sys 3

I need to set up the files to 100 in my config.sys (files=100). The problem is that when I restart my computer, Windows deletes the content of the file. Are there other place where I can configure the "files" ?

I need to do that for let an old application (but very important) run

Go into Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information.

From there, click tools, then System Configuration Utility.

Make changes to your config.sys and autoexec.bat files using this utility and they'll remain changed.
