Hi,

does anyone know where i could get a windows man page viewer from?

Ive been sent a file from a friend with a .4p file extension and it is apparently a *nix man page.

Any help, thanks.

It is an Ascii text file. You should be able to open it with windows wordpad. Select 'Open' from the menu, and change the file type to 'all files *.*' at the bottom.

yeah i can open it ok, but its got a load of markup language in there that i wanted to get rid of, thanks

Are you using Notepad or Wordpad? Wordpad should't have all the garbage characters.

UltraEdit is the text-file viewer I use for windows. I tested a man page a few minutes ago and it worked fine.

its not garbage characters, its like markup language, like alot of

.I

.B

etc in there

That's postscript I belive. Not sure how to 'really' get it printed nicely (aside from sending it to the printer). Try this:
Code:
man <command> | col -b > yourmanpage.txt

(that's from the 'man' man page)

You can then send that text file to your friend. Or google for the command and send a link from one of the bagillion or so manpage-to-html pages out there (like :) )
