Hi there...I have a computer here that will allow you to log in, but immediately log you off.

I've tried the suggestions here:
It didn't work. I've also run an AV and anti-malware program via UBCD4WIN, and it didn't find anything.

Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Can you login via Safe Mode or in Normal Mode as another user?

You could try ChkDsk /r from the Recovery Console.

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

An easy to follow recovery console description when unable to start computer due to corrupt registry.

This is a layman's version of Q307545 in simple language.

Thanks

I've already tried everything except the corrupt registry fix so far (copied userinit to wsaupdater, did chkdsk /r, etc) to no avail. I'll try the registry fix here soon. Hope it works!

If above suggestions do not help, answer the following question. Was the hard drive in this PC recently cloned/ghosted??

Eh, that went from bad to worse. Keyboard & mouse wouldn't work after I tried the registry repair trick.

It'll just be quicker to reformat & reinstall. It doesn't have anything important on it, anyway.

Thanks for your help anways, guys!

Sorry that bombed out for you, lots of people have had success with that registry fix.

At least you are learning the important lesson of having a good image backup of your partitions that can easily be restored in such similar events if they occur in the future.
