I have been gifted an old PC - the spec. is not bad and will be of some use. When it booted it was looking for a network password.

I changed the network login to Windows login and deleted all but one user ( a new user I added without a password ). I still get the Windows Login prompt. How do I get rid of it ?

Many thanx,

If you have a NIC card in this pc and dont need it, remove it from the system and the device manager and give that a try. (In the Network Neighborhood properties you can remove all the network settings ie NetBeui, tcp/ip, client for ms networks)

Hope this helps.

I suggest you go into the autoexec.bat file and remove any references to starting a network connection.

Run sysedit

In the file system.ini file delete all lines pertaining to password.

here is an example

[Password Lists]
TEST=C:\WINDOWS\TEST.PWL

After deleting them, make sure you save.

Upon rebooting, the windows passwords will not be required.

I hope this helps

Saying all that, you can always try the help file which tell you to remove .pwl files, reboot your pc and when prompted to enter a user name and password, click cancel, it will (or should) now not ask you again.

Lamaar,

I have tried this.

Still to try the other suggestions though. Will be the weekend before I get the chance.

Thanx anyway.

Clicking cancel will bring back the same thing.
You must enter a username, but NO password, then click OK.
You should NOT get prompted from then on, but if you do, go to Networking in Control Panel, and make sure you are using MS Family logon as default.
