I was okay until I downloaded AVG virus protection now when I start pc up it ask for user name and pass word I had no pass word for this. Any adivce I have so much needed files for work that I cannot get to. I put the recovery disk in and reloaded windown XP. I did not format the dirve and now when pc boots up I have to profile choice to chose from old system and the new installed I need my old system but cannot log on. I also apologize and suppose because I am not nothing more than a home user who works out of my home due to illness and disability and I am not very computer savy. So if I am not suppose to be in here please let me know however I am very desperate and need some help. Have limited income and cannot afford to have someone work on the computer for me. Any help or adivce you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!!!!

Can you clarify what the recovery disk for your machine did please? (some completely wipe the drive and restore to factory condition - but your description makes it sound like its installed another version of the operating system).

Can you log onto the machine using the 'new system'?

If you can, you can access all your files on the 'old system' - unless the new wiped out the old (in this case, they're probably lost, but a data recovery application might recover some of them). So we need to know what's actually happened.
