Windows Installer (msiexec) problem

I've been having the hardest time trying to install a network printer on this WinME computer. When I run the install program it keeps giving me this error:

Msiexec has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL.
Msiexec will now close.

I've tried everything I can think of short of a complete Windows reinstall. Any ideas?

What sort of network printer (eg, connected directly to network with own IP address, connected to machine on network & shared, connected to a print server...) and what sort of network (workgroup, domain).

You're running install on local (ME) machine - rather than using add printer, and finding network printer. Can you do it the other way?
