Hi,

I've noticed recently that everytime I put in a CD on my laptop, I get a windows installer window come up and it seems to do some install process. Same thing for my memory stick as well.

Not seen this before and wondered why its started happening now.

Also, I have a process called ccapp.exe which is using 100+meg of memory. Its a norton av process but wondered if anyone had seen this?

Regards,
Mike

2 possibilities

1) CCApp.exe is the process that Norton uses that automatically checks incoming data and e-mail scanning. This is a ligitimate process
2) CCApp.exe is also a adware popup process.

check this out by finding out the location that this process runs in.

Start > run > msconfig > look at the system start box and find the CCApp.exe and look at it's location.
Also > Start > search > search all physical disks for CCApp.exe, as it may be hooked into something on startup, that then launches the malware CCApp.exe, rather than the real one.

If the folder isn't related to Symantec or Norton, then run trend micro's housecall virus scanner HouseCall from Trend Micro, and the usual spyware and adware tools.

Perhaps the two problems are linked in some way.

Have a look in the Event Viewer and see if you have any MSI errors or Warnings.

Maybe you could try inserting any Symantec Installation CD in case it is trying to repair itself? Maybe uninstalling Norton and re-installing it, but only as a last resort as this procedure may cause more problems (with Norton) than you already have.

Try some of the suggested fixes in this article even though they might not be specific to your problem.
