(Sorry for posting this twice... it fit in both categories. Thank you!)

Here's the situation... hoping someone can help!

My friend and I just moved into a new apartment.

He has a IBM T40 laptop and a desktop and I have the same. Before we moved, all of our computers were working fine (except for my T40 with an occasional blue screen - maybe every 2 months or so).

Since we moved in, both of our laptops and my desktop have gone crazy.

I'll start with my desktop... I have a custom built desktop with a Nvidia GeForce 4 Dual Monitor video card. I've always used one monitor with it but when I moved in here, I added the second monitor using a DVI-->VGA converter for the card. I left my desktop a few days ago to do some laundry, and came back to find what is kind of hard to explain: the monitors were sort of frozen, only sections of them would refresh, and when I moved the mouse, whichever monitor the cursor was on at the point would just flicker. Eventually, the computer would just start beeping and I'd have to force a restart. Upon restart, there were horizontal lines in the "DOS" bootup as well.

I initially thought that it was a hardware problem because of this. However, I rebooted in safe mode, and both monitors work perfectly. The situation only occurs when I boot up in normal mode, and it happens sort of speratically. But, it has not occured in safe mode at all yet and I've booted in safe mode several times.

I updated the graphics drivers and BIOS which fixed the problem for a day before it came back. Then I scanned my computer for viruses, with Norton and another program. The norton found nothing but the other one found a Sasser virus in my system folder. I deleted the folder, restarted, and everything was fine. I thought I fixed it, BUT, no luck - it came back this morning. I did a re-scan and this time it came up dry but the problem persists.

Now, both my laptop and my friend's laptop have been blue screening, and when the laptops reboot, Windows sites a "graphics card" error as the reason there was a blue screen - my desktop did not blue screen, but im assuming that it is some sort of graphics related issue. The two desktops and two laptops are networked together through LAN and Wireless LAN, but a virus scan on both laptops was negative.

On another note, our brand new 36" tv and my friends desktop computer monitor have discoloration in the corners, as if there was some sort of magnet near them.

I don't know if any of these things are connected or not (we thought maybe since everything worked fine until we came here) but we're desperate to get our computers back up and running.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix any of this, please let me know - it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Take a look at your new environment. Look for any rf high powered antenna nearby... Radio or TV station towere? Check your ac power. If it's AC, a UPS might clean things up for you. RF problems are a little tougher to shield out. Good luck.
