Windows Gateway 1

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

I've recently begun working with Tivoli trying to learn on a system that has been administratively idle for 2 years. The TMR is on AIX but there are 3 gateways installed on Windows systems. The windows password has been misplaced to get access to the gateways. Is there a default Tivoli username/password that I can try? Thanks again.

Even if the windows local admin passwords have been lost. tivoli should still be able to access the gateways. Every gateway, will someone correct me if i am wrong, must have the managed node software installed before the gateway product can be installed. if from the command line on your TMR you type odadmin odlist, you should see the windows box listed. if the windows server has the flag of (-ct), then is connected and logged into the TMR. if its status is (-t) then it is not connected. Although none of this helps you gain local access to the server.

Hopefully this server or servers also have a tivoli endpoint installed. you can check buy running the following command from the TMR:

wlookup -ar Endpoint

if the server is in the list then you are in luck as far as I am concerned. now try this command:

wep <hostname> view_version

if this command passed, the TMR can talk to the endpoint. You could now use 'cusrmgr.exe' from the Windows 2000 Resource kit to change the local admin password on those windows boxes buy doing the following:

(((research the wadminep command)))

1) copy cusrmgr.exe from the TMR to the endpoint using wadminep

2) now execute cusrmgr.exe using wadminep from the TMR to launch on the endpoint

Thanks for helping. When I do the command:

wep <hostname>

I get a list of information on the host associated with that gateway. When I try your request:

wlookup -ar <hostname>

I get a message stating the resource type is not found. Why would this be? Thanks again.

the command is :

wlookup -ar Endpoint


you actually type the word Endpoint, by the way all tivoli commands are case sensitive, not the name of the endpoint. if u have the ability to use 'grep.exe' i would issue the following command which is more detailed:

wlookup -ar Endpoint | grep -i 123

when i say 123, i am trying to get u to use some common characters in the hostname of the endpoint. for example, if i had 2 or 3 endpoints named:

blahblahVA01
blahblahVA02
blahblahVA03

i would issue the following command to get all endpoints containing VA in their hostnames:

wlookup -ar Enpoint | grep -i VA


so if your servers hostname is returned the an endpoint has been installed. then check to see if the endpoint is actually working by using the following command:

wep blahblahVA03 view_version or
wep blahblahVA03 status

thats great....just glad i could help..by the way, what version of framework are you running. I suggest buying the "TME 10 Framework Version 3.6 Reference Manual" or downloading the redbook from IBM. It gives you most of tivoli's command line and how to use them.

I'm running version 3.7.1. I've downloaded the manuals; however, I can't always find what I need easily. Thanks again for the help.
