Windows File Replication using NAS

Our organisation currently runs Windows file replication between two Win2k servers, each one in a different building, linked through VPN.

We are considering expanding our network using NAS devices.

has anyone any experience of expanding their Win2k network using NAS devices ?

I am considering taking the server out of building B and have all users at that property log into our PDC (through VPN) at building A.

Building B would get one or more NAS devices in place of the Win2k server where replicated files (from designated folders on our PDC in building A) would live.

I've used Unison on Linux servers before to do this (and more) but I've not done much more than the basics with file replication and I wondered how others had got on with it, when using NAS devices.

Any (polite) comments appreciated ;o)

I use a NAS device to store user profiles and redirects. I also use it for other things, like SQL DB's and what not. It seems to work fine.

I needed a more I/O for logon times especially, this is why I went with the NAS storage for the profiles and redirects.

Depending on how many users you have at the remote location, I think this would work just fine being authenticated via VPN and having storage locally. However, any more than a handlful of users and I would suggest having a DC at the remote site.

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!
