I have a process that keeps loading, ieih.exe it is located in the Windows dir. I notice that this process chews up CPU utilization. What is it? How do I get rid of it? Can I just delete the file from Windows directory?

Thanks for any help.

This is a Cool Web Shredder variant, and without more information it is unclear how old the variant is.

There likely are other files being used and run in your registry RUN keys.

If you could, run through the steps outlined in faq608-4650. As specific advice, you need to run these steps in the exact order given. In step #2, it mentions various third-party programs. Download, update and install the Microsoft Antispyware beta program, and run it twice in Safe Mode.

Download SpyBot 1.4 Final. (Remnove any earlier version) and install it. Update the definition files through the menu. Exit. Reboot. Run a scan using Spybot 1.4

Report back after completing the rest of the steps in the FAQ. I think you should be fine.

Bill:
Thanks for the help. I actually discovered I had the Home Search Assistant spyware and various other spyware. I used the following advice i found on the web:

I also used Spybot, Ad Aware and I just loaded and used MS Antispyware. In addition I ran my Noron Antivirus all prior to running the Hijackthis process.

I did have to run the process 3 times before all of files were removed but I'm happy to say that I am clean! Yeah.

Hopefully, I now can keep my system clean. Do you have any other advice for preventing spyware besides what I mentioned above?

You sound in good hands.
Glad you got the issue sorted.

Side note to this, I recommend running Spyware Blaster in addition to a real time spyware monitor.
