Dear Forum,

After a fresh installation of Windows 98SE, when I open a

WINDOWS Explorer window, it would be about 8 1/2 inches tall and

about 12 1/2 inches wide on my 17 inch monitor.

However, when I open any more windows, THEY come out to about

6 1/2 inches tall and about 8 1/2 inches wide.

I know there is an answer that works, as my old installation

of Windows 98SE had all of my Windows Explorer windows opening

the same 8 1/2 by 12 1/2 size. I just can't recall what I did

to make it behave correctly.

Help!!

Thanks in advance.

Ben

change the window size by dragging the corner out and then close and when opened should be the size that it was when closed.

I tried that using the upper right X and using the upper

left "File-Close" drop-down.

The results were the same: No help. Window #2 and beyond

reverted to the smaller size. :-(

each window you open is for a new folder and that folders display is remembered. so the first time you open it you will have to adust it to the size you want. You could change the view options to browse folders in a single window instead ro right click and chose explore when opening from my computer. I usually do this anyway.

Bugz:

To open each folder in the same window, follow these steps:

(1) Open Windows Explorer (or open any folder)
(2) Click View & choose Folder Options
(3) Click the General tab
(4) Select "Custom, based on settings you choose"
(5) Click Settings
(6) In the Custom Settings box under "Browse folders as follows" select "Open each folder in the same window" & then click OK
(7) Click Close on the Folder Options box

That's it. Now when you resize a windows & click on the X to close it, Windows 98 SE will remember the size next time you open the same window.

Just remember: Each folder will have it's own size settings, so you'll have to resize each one the way you want, but then those sizes will be remembered by the OS (operating system).

Hope that helps,
Doc

Dear Forum,

Below are all of the suggestions that I have tried

and none worked.

Any new suggestions out there?

Ben

When the other windows open at 6.5 x 8.5 resize them to
the size that you’d like (8.5 x 12.5) and then hold down
the CTRL key while clicking the "X" in the upper right
hand corner of the window to close it. This is called a
‘hard close’ and Windows should remember the window state
when it’s opened again.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Did you try to remove "remember each folder's view setting"
option ?? tools\folder option\view "tab"
-----------------------------------------------------------
Try resizing the windows, holding down Control, and X out
the windows.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Maximize Windows Explorer and then close it.
The app remembers its window size when it was last
closed, and it will open new windows the same size.
Ditto for Internet Explorer.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Try holding Shift when closing from the File menu. or is it
ctrl? ... try both
-----------------------------------------------------------
Make it the size you want and then click File > Close.

will have to adust it to the size you want. You could

Note.. After getting this, I opened 5 Windows, made them
all 8.5 x 12.5 and X'd them closed. #2 and on came out
6.5 x 8.5. Same result using File-Close. :-(

Open a new window, stretch it to fit screen, then minimize that window, open another window, stretch it to fit screen, minimize that window, maximize the first window you stretched, then hold down the "ctrl" button and "tick" on the "X" in the right hand top, Tick = Click, sorry. Next time you open windows they should fit the screen every time mate.

Are you using a shortcut to open the windows?

If you are, right click it, make sure under 'run' it says maximised.

AussieViper: Thanks, I'll give that a try.

SimonDavis: I thought I made it clear that what I wanted

is a Window about 8 1/2 inches tall and about

12 1/2 inches wide, not one covering the whole

desktop. Sorry if you misunderstood.

Set it at the size you want. DON'T use the X to close, use the "File/exit" method to close. The setting should stay.

Dear Micker377,

Tried that already as I said in my 23 Mar 05 3:22

post :-(
