Randomly Windows Explorer will crash when I click on it. Using Windows XP Home edition. When this happens some icons next to clock disappear. Thank you.

Hi,
Check the Event Viewer to see if any handy info is there about the crash.

When you click ON WHAT???? You don't click on Windows - you click on an icon or the start button. See what I mean??

Put some more meat on the bone for us to chew on in terms of understanding your problem.

So I expect it was when he tries to open Windows Explorer.

Ooops, I missed that somewhow - sorry not wearing glasses. (Well, technically you can't click on Windows Explorer since it's the operating system shell, but you could right click on the START button and choose explore. Never mind.)

How were you attempting to lauch explorer???

I would start out with a malware scan with MalwareByte's Anti-Malware.

If your computer is clean and nothing shows in the event log, you could try an SFC /scannow.

Then move on to testing the memory and the hard drive.

I have a Desktop Shortcut for Windows Explorer, I don't right click, I double click an it opens, all the scans have been utilized, even tried System Restore for an earlier date. Send a Windows Explorer Shortcut to your Desktop, it will click open.

So, it's still not working AND you did the memory test, the SFC and the manufacturer's hard drive test???

What about items in the event viewer?
