My computer is a 1.7 GHz Celeron running Win98 SE. My hard drive (40 GB) is partitioned into four, #C, #D, #E & #F.

When I open Windows Explorer, the tree diagram (i.e. the left-hand sub-window) shows the Windows folder on #C expanded. I usually want to explore one of the other partitions. When I click on the -sign in the square, that part of the tree diagram closes up but then immediately opens again. If I click on - a second time, it usually shuts and stays shut.

I get the same behaviour if I want to totally close the part of the tree diagram showing #C.

It's not a total show-stopper but it's annoying. Has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone else a cure?

Best regards,

Pete W.

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs - you haven't seen the latest Change Note!

Yes I've seen that before, and posted about it. I believe the conclusion that everyone came to was the version of IE. If you have IE6, this is what you get with 98. May only be a certain service pack or patch level, but I'm not sure... And yes, its very annoying.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

%windir%\explorer.exe /n,/e,d:\

This is what I use for a shortcut to access D:\ (that's where all my downloads go). Make a "new shortcut" on the desktop, change the "d" to which ever drive you want to open. See if that works better. [Note the space between the .exe and the slash]
